Pisces Full Moon energy update — endings and beginnings
Because Pisces rules endings, this Full Moon may bring about endings and closure, or it may illuminate information and truths that have been hiding in the shadows.
Hey Witches,
Can you believe we’re heading into the last four months of this year? I’ve always had a complicated relationship with September. For the first half of my life, it signalled a return to school and studies. It also heralds the autumn equinox and the shorter, colder days ahead as we head into the dark half of the year.
It’s one of the reasons I like living in Barcelona — September is another month of summer here and that makes the transition into the cooler seasons easier and more gradual.
Still, like a lot of people, I often experience “autumn anxiety” as we head towards the autumn equinox. There are thought to be a few causes for this: as we shift out of laid-back Leo mode and get organised for the end of the year (hello, Virgo season!), we may look back at our goals for the year and realise some of them are not quite on track. Plus, the busy holiday season looms on the horizon, adding an extra layer of stress and pressure.
Grief can amplify anxiety, especially when the loss was sudden, unexpected, and traumatic, like the loss of my mother. I’ll be honest with you — grief has made me much more fearful than I used to be. Social situations still overwhelm me. I obsess over my health and the safety and well-being of my loved ones. And I always fear the worst — because it already happened once.
This September is a particularly loaded one — as those who have been here a while will know — because it’s the last month before my mum’s first “deathaversary.” There are a lot of misconceptions about grief, and one of the most common is that it goes away with time. It does not. Staring down the barrel of one year since my loss, it’s still as large and present in my mind and soul as it was a year ago. Daily life is still a struggle and it takes all my energy and strength just to be a functioning human being. Just last night, I woke up crying from a dream about mum.
Social conditioning tells me there must be something wrong with me to still be feeling like this. It’s been nearly a year — shouldn’t I be “over it” by now? The way grief is represented in the media is unrealistic and creates unnecessary pressure and expectations on grievers. Many of us feel like there’s something wrong with us to still be feeling this way.
If you’re grieving, please know that your grief is valid and it matters — no matter how recent or long ago your loss was. And if you’re not grieving but know someone who is, check in on them. Visit them if you can — ideally with a homemade meal and a bottle of wine. You have no idea how much they’ll appreciate it. Because the world may have forgotten about their grief, but they haven’t.
The theme of grief ties in with the upcoming Pisces Full Moon that will fall on the 9th/10th of the month. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces represents endings and death. It is the bridge between this world and the next. So let’s take a look at what the Pisces Full Moon has in store for us.
Pisces Full Moon energy update
As a mutable water sign, Pisces rules the subconscious mind, dreams, intuition, poetry, psychic abilities, and imagination. Pisces energy is, therefore, magical, mysterious, and hints at hidden depths and the unknown.
Because Pisces rules endings, this Full Moon may bring about endings and closure, or it may illuminate information and truths that have been hiding in the shadows. As humans, we’re resistant to endings and change. We tend to hold onto what’s old and familiar, even when it doesn’t serve our highest good.
Pisces also rules illusion, escapism, and addiction to substances. This Full Moon asks you to look at what you may have been avoiding and highlights any addictions or unhealthy habits you may turn to in order to avoid difficult situations, feelings, or decisions.
Since we’re in the midst of Virgo season, this is the perfect time to overhaul your habits and set some new, healthier ones in place. These may be physical habits — like eating more vegetables or getting back to a regular exercise routine — or mental habits, such as letting go of thoughts and beliefs that may be harmful or no longer serve you.
The Saturn-Uranus and Eris-Pluto squares that played out throughout 2021 will make a comeback this month. I’ve written about these aspects in previous editions, but essentially, they represent the old versus the new, control versus freedom.
You’re being asked to break away from your conditioning and let go of your attachments to the old order. Sustainability has become a buzzword in recent years because the systems we live in are unsustainable — and we know it. There’s a growing sense of tension, it feels like we’re reaching a breaking point.
The first step to creating change in the world is to start with ourselves. Dreamy Pisces asks you to listen to the whispers of your intuition, to follow the internal nudges that bring you into alignment with your truth. What internal beliefs, ideas, and structures do you need to dismantle? What does heaven on Earth look like to you?
We often think it’s selfish to put ourselves first, but the opposite is true. When we change ourselves, we can change the world. So creating a new, fairer, more equitable and sustainable reality begins at home. When you create a life you love from a place of alignment with your soul rather than ego, you vibrate at a higher frequency, and that can create a ripple effect that extends to those around you, your community, and beyond.
Pay special attention to your dreams around the Pisces Full Moon, as they may carry important messages. Try to write your dreams down as soon as you wake up, even if they don’t make any sense at first. As the images filter through your mind, you may be struck with clarity around their meaning.
Represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions, the Pisces Full Moon may illuminate areas of your life where you feel torn. You might be tempted to swim away and escape, but this lunation asks you to stand your ground, be brave, and make a choice.
Perhaps you have projects on hold or are feeling stuck on how to move forward. If so, don’t worry. Retrograde season is well under way, with the five outer planets all making their annual reverse journey. The mantra of retrograde season is to slow down, pause, review, and reflect.
Mercury will join the outer planets for its now-infamous retrograde on the 9th of September, stationing direct on the 2nd of October. This is yet another cosmic signal that now is not the time for action but for reflection.
Be careful with your words throughout this month. Mars is paying an extended visit to Gemini, where it will hang out until February 2023 due to a retrograde that will begin in October. Gemini is the sign of communication, and Mars may make us bolder and more rash with our words. Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, causes scrambled signals and crossed wires during its retrograde, so try to think before you speak and consider waiting to have any important conversations.
Card of the week
Every other Friday, I pull a card to provide guidance for subscribers of The Coven.
This week, I’m using my Seasons of the Witch: Beltane Oracle deck by Lorrianne Anderson and Juliet Diaz, and the card I’ve pulled for you is Handfastings reversed.
The message of this card is about inner union and sovereignty. One of the shadow aspects of Pisces is that it lacks boundaries and has a tendency to lose itself in relationships.
This card asks you to call back all the parts of yourself that may have become scattered or energetically intertwined with others. While there’s nothing wrong with relationships, sometimes the attachments within them can become toxic.
By calling back the parts of your soul that belong to you, you reclaim your energy and set an energetic boundary with the other person. This doesn’t mean cutting ties or ending the relationship, but simply restoring energetic balance to it that will benefit you both in the long run. This is a good time to do a cord cutting meditation or energetic cleanse to reclaim your energy and return the energy of others to them.
It’s essential to make time to turn inward, tune out the noise of the outside world, embrace silence and stillness, and listen to your inner wisdom. You cannot connect to your intuition through mental chatter — you must quiet the mind and close your (outer) eyes in order to see clearly. This is a time of heightened energy on our planet, and this energy can help you open your third eye and awaken the psychic abilities that lie dormant within all of us.
This card asks you to look at areas of your life that feel out of balance and assess what you can let go of and what you can incorporate to regain that balance. This doesn’t mean you have to overhaul your life right now — the tiniest habits repeated over time grow like seeds to create massive shifts in your life.
Pick just one thing you can commit to every day — perhaps it’s cutting out sugar, meditating for ten minutes, walking 10,000 steps, or reading a chapter of a book per day. Start today, and in a year from now, you’ll be amazed at the difference.
