How I became a Witch
It was more of a realization than a decision.
After years of spiritual seeking and never finding something that quite fit right, I finally came home to the truth of who I am.
I am a Witch.
Even just writing that feels like a bold statement. Judgments creep into my mind like lizards in a cauldron.
What will people think? What will my mother say? Will I be hunted down?
Not that it matters. People will think what they want to think of you, no matter what you do — so it’s best just to embrace who you are, right?
So here I am, embracing my Witchy nature and sharing it on the interwebs because I believe there are other women out there like me.
Women who have a deep yearning for spiritual connection but feel the patriarchal religions in which we were raised were made to oppress us, not enrich us.
Women who have explored other spiritual traditions looking for that connection but haven’t quite found what they’re looking for.
Women who suspect that unlocking the door to that connection and unleashing their fullest potential actually lies in their own hands.
Women who want to deepen their connection with the cycles of nature by connecting with the cycles of their bodies.
Women who — deep down — know that they are magickal beings, powerful beyond measure — and want to know how to tap into that innate power and use it in their lives.
If that’s you — welcome, Sister.
But you may be wondering — how do I know if I’m a Witch?
The best way to know is if you feel it. Does the word Witch resonate with you? How does it make you feel?
For me, the word Witch is empowering.
It reminds me of the deep connection to nature that we as women share.
It reminds me of the magick that surrounds us all the time — if you know how to see it.
It reminds me of our grandmothers, the ones they persecuted, tortured, and killed in the name of Witchcraft, and that I owe it to them to keep their spirit alive.
It reminds me of the raw, unstoppable power of women.
It reminds me of the strength and community of Sisterhood.
I became a Witch by realizing that I already was one.
