Gemini Full Moon 2022 — embracing duality
Can you keep your cool when your beliefs are challenged?
Hey Witches,
I hope you enjoyed those sweet, sweet Sagittarius New Moon vibes because the Gemini Full Moon is coming in hot to add fuel to those holiday season arguments.
The Gemini Full Moon falls on the night of the 7th-8th of December. Represented by the Twins, Gemini rules the mind, mental chatter, gossip, communication, ideas, and short-term plans. Witty, intellectually sharp Geminis also have a reputation for being two-faced, indecisive, and fickle.
The Gemini Full Moon will be conjunct Mars retrograde in Gemini, amplifying Mars’ aggravating, volatile, fiery energy. Fuses will be short, tempers may flare, and arguments could abound. We may feel frustrated, annoyed, and spoiling for a fight. After all, Mars is the god of war, and Gemini rules communication. Just look at what’s happening to Twitter right now — it should come as no surprise that Gemini is Twitter’s ruling sign.
Under this polarising lunation, we might feel so sure that we’re right and the other is wrong, we’ll be armed to the teeth and ready to jump in and defend our ideas — often without thinking before we speak.
The effects of Mars retrograde may have us all feeling a little funky, stagnant, triggered, and unmotivated. However, we can use the fiery Mars energy to reconnect with our passions and what lights us up.
The lesson this Gemini Moon comes to teach us is how to stay cool, calm, and collected when our ideas are being challenged. To practise self-awareness and notice what we might be reacting to and why before choosing to respond.
As the sign of duality, this Moon also reminds us there are two sides to every story and invites us to see situations as “both/and” instead of “either/or”.
Finally, the Gemini Full Moon asks us to accept all aspects of our dualistic nature — light and dark, good and bad, masculine and feminine — and integrate the shadow aspects of ourselves that we may reject or ignore.
Gemini Full Moon ritual — speaking the unspeakable
Sometimes situations play out in our lives that leave us feeling angry and resentful, and it’s not always possible to communicate our true feelings. This can be for many reasons — perhaps you and the other person just can’t see eye to eye, or maybe the rift even causes you to exit one another’s lives for a season or a lifetime.
When these situations arise, we play out scenarios and conversations in our heads, often having imaginary arguments and coming up with killer burns that we wish we had thought of at the time. These kinds of ruminations and resentment are typical of Mars retrograde in Gemini.
However, you may have heard that holding a grudge against someone is like drinking poison and expecting them to die. In the end, you’re harming yourself more than them.
If you’re harbouring resentment towards a person, group of people, or situation, it’s time to let that shit go. Use this ritual to work with the Gemini Full Moon energy and release any pent-up feelings so you can move forward with grace and ease.
You will need:
A white candle
A piece of paper and a pen
A sprig of rosemary
Hot water
A fireproof container
Start by making an infusion. Place the rosemary into a mug and pour the hot water over it. Rosemary is great for cleansing, purifying, and releasing any old, stagnant, or negative energies. Stir your cup clockwise and say out loud or in your mind three times: “I release all resentment towards (name of person/people or the situation).”
Light the candle, and as you sip your tea, start writing a letter to the person/people or about the situation you want to release your resentment towards. Don’t hold back — no one is going to read it.
When you’ve finished writing, stand outside or by a window where you can see the Moon. Tell her what you’re releasing (you can read the letter out loud or simply summarise it) and who you’re forgiving.
Then, set your letter on fire and let it burn safely in the fireproof dish, allowing the transformative and purifying power of fire to release and transmute your resentment into forgiveness.
Blow out the candle or let it burn all the way down.
Gemini Full Moon self-care tips
Gemini rules the throat, lungs, and breath, so this is a great time to practise cleansing breathwork exercises such as Kapalabhati (“Shining Skull”), and Simhasana (“Lion’s Breath”).
Activate your throat chakra by singing or chanting. The bija mantra for the throat chakra is “Ham”.
Work with Gemini’s mutable qualities to wash away negative energies in a ritual bath or shower.
Smoke cleanse your home and its inhabitants with sage.
Work with Jupiter’s expansive energies to manifest abundance.
