Full Blood Moon Eclipse in Scorpio 2022
Hey Witches,
Welcome to your energy update for the Full Blood Moon Eclipse in Scorpio, taking place on the 15th/16th of May (depending on where you are in the world). This lunar eclipse will be visible in Africa, South and North America, and Western Europe, but its effects will be felt everywhere.
The time between eclipses is known as the eclipse portal, a time that tends to bring up our shadows, those darker sides of ourselves we would rather push down and ignore. With eclipses, it all comes bubbling to the surface.
How are you holding up as we transit this eclipse portal? I’ve spent most of it in the UK for the first time since my mother died. It’s been bringing up a lot of old emotions and psychic junk, including an interesting experience of grieving for my younger self. If you’re also going through intense emotions at this time, know that it’s normal. Give yourself grace and allow them to move through you without judgement.
Now is a time for deep self-care as the Scorpio Blood Moon approaches. Eclipses often mark the ending of a cycle, and that energy of endings is even stronger with the Moon in Scorpio, the sign of death, transformation, and rebirth.
During this eclipse portal, you might be feeling like the caterpillar in the chrysalis, when its whole body dissolves and it literally turns into goo. The caterpillar can’t imagine the freedom, beauty, and joy that lie on the other side of this painful process. It doesn’t know that when it emerges, it will be a butterfly.
Scorpio is also associated with the mythical phoenix, which rises from its own ashes. The process of ending, shedding, and letting go of that which no longer serves can be so painful, yet it ultimately serves a higher purpose. We are experiencing the death of the things that can no longer continue the journey with us — whether that’s a job, relationship, habit, or simply a part of you that no longer represents who you are.
This all ties into this month’s theme of authenticity. We cannot be our authentic selves without letting go of the things, people, places, situations, and parts of us that are no longer authentic to us.
Scorpio is a water sign, which means it represents emotions. Full Moons tend to be emotionally-charged times, but with the Blood Moon eclipse in shadowy Scorpio, you may be experiencing more intense “negative” emotions around this time (eclipse energy can be felt up to one month before and six months after the eclipse itself).
This eclipse is also happening during Mercury Retrograde in Gemini. Mercury rules Gemini, and both represent communication, so you may want to wait until it goes direct at the end of the month before having any difficult conversations.
Card of the week
Every week, I pull a card to provide guidance for subscribers of The Coven.
This week, I’m using my “Work Your Light” deck by Rebecca Campbell again because I’m still in the UK and it’s the only one I brought with me!
The card I’ve pulled for you is Deep Replenishment — Retreat. Rest. Be held.
This card is so appropriate for this Full Blood Moon and reinforces the idea that this is a time to really prioritise self-care. It’s not a time for pushing through or toughing it out. It’s time to surrender to the chaos and retreat into our inner world.
The crazy thing is that, if you look closely, you can see this card literally shows the lunar eclipse happening in the sign of Scorpio (I promise I picked it at random!).
The woman in the image is standing near a body of water, which represents emotions and dreams but also healing. She is grounded and connected to herself and the Earth. She is light surrounded by darkness and represents the innate ability that we all have to self-heal.
The roses and cacti that surround her are a reminder that life is made up of both beauty and challenges, and without one, you can’t appreciate the other.
The message of this card for this Full Moon is very much about taking your foot off the gas and really creating that space for deep rest and replenishment. Take some time this weekend to fill your cup.
Scorpio Blood Moon Eclipse ritual suggestions
Ideas to help you harness the energy of the Scorpio Blood Moon Eclipse.
Eclipse energy is chaotic, and any magickal workings done under this Moon are likely to go awry — they may fall flat or have unintended consequences.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t mark the occasion with rituals. Since this eclipse is about purging, you might want to release any old patterns or pains you’ve noticed coming up recently or that you know you’ve been suppressing. Water rituals are a great way to harness the energy of Scorpio.
Pay attention to your dreams. As a water sign, Scorpio is closely connected to dreams and the subconscious. Ask your guides to come to you in your dreams or try a ritual for lucid dreaming. Make sure you keep a journal near your bed to write down any answers that come through!
If you live near a body of living water or can access one (a lake, river, or the sea), try bathing or doing a ritual cleanse. Imagine the water washing away all that no longer serves you. If you don’t live near a body of water, you can also do this in the bath or shower with salt and herbs.
There’s a lot going on astrologically around this Full Moon, and it might leave you feeling frazzled. We’re also seeing heightened activity from the Sun, which is battering us with coronal mass ejections. These can cause physical symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, nausea, and more. Grounding by sitting, lying, or walking barefoot on the Earth is a great way to soothe your nervous system.
Journaling prompts
These prompts are designed to get you thinking. Answer as many or as few as you like and allow your mind to meander on the page.
What am I holding onto that no longer serves me? How can I release it?
What messages are my emotions trying to tell me? How can I honour them?
Which parts of me need to die in order for me to be reborn?
Journal about your dreams. Notice if there are any recurring themes. What are they trying to tell you?
Which difficult conversations am I avoiding? How can I prepare for them?
How can I deeply care for myself and tend to my inner world?
In which areas of my life do I feel least authentic?
That’s it for this week’s update. Did it resonate? Hit reply or comment and let me know. And if you know someone who might like it, don’t forget to share it with them.
I wish you a restful weekend and lots of luck as we navigate the murky waters of the Scorpio eclipse during Mercury Retrograde!
Much love and blessings,
Victoria
