Each week, I pull a card from my Rider Waite Tarot deck to offer guidance for the group.
This week’s card is the Empress, which aligns perfectly with this week’s themes.
The Empress invites you to connect with your divine feminine nature.
She represents abundance, fertility, sensual pleasures, sexual energy, creativity, and grounding.
Moon phase: waning crescent
The moon is in its last phase before the new moon starts the cycle again on the 12th of May.
The waning crescent is also called the balsamic moon, and it has a soothing energy.
The energy of this moon phase is Yin.
If your energy feels low and you want to withdraw from the world, this could be the reason why. Take time this weekend for relaxation and self-care.
It’s also a time to release any negative or heavy energies, situations, or people holding you back.
A great way to do this is with this simple spell.
Waning moon spell for release:
You will need:
A dead leaf
A black marker
A lighter or matches
Take the marker and write what you want to release on the leaf.
This could be a bad habit, grief, heartbreak, anxiety, depression, or a hostile environment or presence.
(If you have several things to release, you might want to use several leaves).
Safely burn the leaf in a bonfire or fireproof container.
5-minute ritual suggestions
Spring cleaning ritual
The Sun is still in earthy Taurus, the homebody of the Zodiac.
This makes it the perfect time to perform a spring cleaning ritual.
OK, I admit it will probably take you more than 5 minutes to spring clean your home.
However, by performing this quick ritual before you start, your intention will infuse extra magickal oomph into your efforts.
First, create a cleansing and protection mixture by mixing nine parts water and one part alcohol.
Then, add a few drops of essential oils such as geranium, rosemary, lemon, or sage. Alternatively, you can use dried herbs.
Finally, sprinkle in some sea salt.
Infuse magick into the mix any way that appeals to you.
You can leave it on your altar and ask Divinity to bless it, draw a magickal symbol on the bottle, or leave a crystal in it overnight (check first if your crystal can be put in water).
Once your water is consecrated, use it to bless and consecrate your cleaning tools, such as your broom.
Spray or flick your magick water onto the item, and say:
“Cleanse and clear this magickal tool, and leave it pure and ready for positive work. So mote it be.”
Then, as you clean, use the power of your intention to energetically sweep away any negativity and leave space for light, loving energy to enter.
Pleasure ritual
Sensuous Taurus is all about pleasure. The energy this week is inviting rest and self-care.
Venus is a big theme this month. On the 3rd, she switched from being the morning star, where she spends 9 months, to be the evening star, where she will spend the next 9 months.
Venus rules Taurus and is the goddess of beauty, love, sexuality, and pleasure.
Pleasure is your birthright. Yet we don’t spend enough time doing things that bring us pleasure for the sake of pleasure alone.
Try taking 5 minutes every day to infuse pleasure into your body with this pleasure ritual.
Lie down and put on some relaxing music. You might want to set the scene with candles, incense, or essential oils.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Scan your body from your feet to the top of your head, releasing any tension. Don’t forget to relax the jaw and face.
As you breathe deeply, inhale loving, healing energy to your womb space. As you exhale, release anything that no longer serves you.
When you feel ready, gently start to trace your fingers all over your body.
Take your time. Notice any places where you’re still holding tension and allow it to release.
Enjoy the sensation of your fingers touching your skin. Appreciate every nuance of your body and celebrate every curve and dimple.
If any negative thoughts arise, notice and forgive them, then release them.
Do this for as long as it feels good!
Grounding ritual
On the 12th, Venus will be conjunct with the New Moon in Taurus. This is known as the Venus gate, and it happens 8 times per year.
This is a great time for root chakra healing and activation.
One of the best ways to activate your root chakra is by grounding. Grounding rituals anchor us into the energy of the Earth and help us feel stable and supported.
Use this grounding ritual any time you notice yourself getting caught up in anxious thoughts.
It can be extra powerful if you do it outside in nature, but it works just as well indoors.
Sit or stand on the ground. If you’re inside, sit on the floor or a chair with your feet flat on the floor.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Feel the strength of the Earth below supporting you.
Start to visualize a root growing out of the base of your spine and reaching down into the Earth.
Picture the root spreading and growing deeper, then start to draw energy up through the root.
Imagine this Earth energy slowly rising up your spine, through your heart centre, and out through the crown of your head.
Breathe and feel the soothing energy flowing through you.
After a few minutes, picture closing your crown and drawing the energy down into your heart.
Then, withdraw the root from the Earth and draw the energy up, meeting at your heart centre.
When you’re ready, open your eyes.
Beltane ritual
You can harness the energy of the sabbats throughout the period in between sabbats.
Beltane invites us to check in on our goals for the year and whether we are on course for creating what we want to create.
The balsamic moon is also an invitation to check on your progress before the new moon cycle begins.
Revisit your goals and course correct as necessary.
Affirmation of the week:
“I allow myself to become more fully me.”
This affirmation can help you release negative beliefs that might be holding you back as you move towards your goals.
Try writing it out in your journal for a few days. You might be surprised at what happens!
