Aries New Moon — the magic of new beginnings
Hey Witches,
First of all, thank you to everyone who has completed the questionnaire so far. There’s been a slight snafu, which is that I forgot to add space for you to include your name and email address — doh! So I can see your answers, but I don’t know who you are. If you’ve completed it already please hit reply and send me a screenshot of your answers so I can enter you into the draw to win a card reading.
If you haven’t completed it yet — there’s still time! As a Generator in Human Design, my strategy is to respond, so your responses will be really helpful for me. I’ve now added the name and email address sections to the form. Submissions will be open until my birthday next week on the 8th — after that, I’ll announce the winner!
Now, onto the Aries New Moon.
The New Moon in Aries falls on 31st March this year. It’s the start of the astrological year and heralds the spring in the northern hemisphere. As I was born on the Aries New Moon, it’s also my astrological birthday!
As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries represents new beginnings — as do New Moons, making this lunation an extra powerful one for manifesting your desires. Think about what you want to manifest — for yourself, your community, and the world — and hold that vision in your mind. See it clearly and connect with the emotions. Since Aries is also about action, make sure to follow up on any intentions you set with aligned action.
Aries is represented by the headstrong Ram and Mars, the planet of war — both known for rushing headlong into conflict. You may feel emotions running high under this New Moon, but take ten deep breaths and resist the urge to act out. Aries is considered the baby of the zodiac, and just like a child, Aries often acts before thinking — Will Smith vs Chris Rock at the Oscars was big Aries season energy.
Card of the week
This week I’m using my Moon Oracle deck and the card I’ve pulled for you is Waning Gibbous — “I make space and release”.
This card comes up as a reminder that before we can call in our deepest desires, we have to let go and release what no longer serves and create energetic space in our minds and bodies.
The Waning Gibbous invites you to reflect on the beliefs, stories, habits, situations, or even people that no longer align with your highest truth. Take some time this week to identify what you need to let go of. You might want to try a cord cutting meditation to help you release them.
Aries New Moon ritual suggestion — manifest with fire
I love a good fire ceremony, and the Aries New Moon is the perfect excuse for one!
Although Full Moons are usually associated with releasing, I always like to clear out old, stagnant energies before inviting new ones in. And our card of the week confirms this is a supportive time to do so.
There are lots of ways to release. One is to simply write down everything you want to release and (safely) burn it. But you could also use tapping, journaling, dancing, or painting — anything that feels good and helps you achieve that feeling of energetic lightness that comes from setting your baggage down.
Once you’ve done your release work, it’s time to call in. I love a good candle spell for manifestation magick. One of my favourite ways to give my candle spells extra oomph is to use colours that match my intention, anoint them with oil, and dress them with corresponding herbs.
Start by thinking about your intention and any possible correspondences. For example, if you want to manifest money, you might use a green candle and cinnamon. To call in love, you may want to use a red or pink candle and rosemary.
Colour and herb correspondences can help focus our attention and channel our energy during spellwork, but they’re not necessary. A simple white candle will also do if you have nothing else!
The other tool I use in my candle spells is a pointed clear quartz crystal. I use it to carve words, sigils, or other representations of my desire onto the candle.
Once you’ve gathered your materials and created your ritual space, take a few moments to ground and centre and call in any guides or ancestors. When you feel connected, write down what you want to manifest in as much detail as possible. Try to really see it in your mind’s eye and tap into the emotions as though it were already real. Then, engrave your candle if you wish to, then anoint it with oil. You can use a special oil if you want, but tend to use whatever I have in my kitchen — usually olive or coconut oil.
To anoint the candle, start at the tips and rub the oil towards the middle. This will help draw your manifestation to you. Finally, dress it with your chosen herb.
You can either burn the piece of paper with your intentions (if you’re a pyromaniac like me) or leave it under the candle as it burns. Place the clear quartz next to the candle. Let the candle burn all the way down (don’t worry if you have to snuff it out and relight it the next day). You might want to plant these intentions along with some seeds in your garden or on your balcony and watch them grow!
Aries New Moon journaling prompts
Grab your journal and reflect on as many of the following questions as you feel called to:
What new beginnings am I calling in?
What’s holding me back that I need to release?
What do I want to create in my life, family, community, and the world?
How can I embrace my inner child? What does my inner child want?
How can I be more playful?
How can I support myself this week?
I hope you enjoyed this week’s New Moon update! Don’t forget to fill out the questionnaire if you haven’t already and be in with a chance to win a card reading.
Wishing you a peaceful Aries New Moon.
Blessed be!
